Music week Carl Orff

This week was music week. Year 4 studied the German composer

Carl ORFF (1895 – 1982).

He invented a new approach to music education which is still followed in many parts of Europe. One of his most famous pieces is ‘O’ Fortuna’ Carmina Burana – ‘O fortuna’ .

It was written in 1937 ‘Carmina Burana’ is a huge piece for orchestra, three choirs and about nine soloists based on 24 medieval poems and sung in a mixture of German and Latin.

The full piece takes over an hour to perform. ‘O Fortuna’ is its very famous opening section.

We practised the ‘UM-PA’ rhythm going throughout the piece.
